SKECHERS for the Whole Family

When you think of SKECHERS, you might think of running shoes or skate shoes first. They’re certainly one of my top choices for shoes for my kids. In our climate, a good pair of runners and a pair of rain boots can take my kids through the entire school year. SKECHERS running shoes are non-slip, comfortable, stylish, and super lightweight.

There’s one more thing. Buying clothing or shoes online always makes me nervous. Even if two items are labelled with the same size, we all know the actual size, width, and fit can vary significantly. More times than I care to remember, I’ve pored over online size charts, printed out shoe size charts, cajoled my little girls to stand up straight while I measured their feet, checked and double checked, and then still gotten the wrong size. But I’ve never had that problem with SKECHERS boots and shoes, and that makes this mom happy.

At four and six, the girls are finding their own personal styles, so we sat down with my laptop and they picked out the sneakers they wanted to review for this post. Kay has a huge love for light-up shoes, so after much agonizing over all the light-up choices, she ended up choosing these S Lights: Lumos shoes. They come in a really pretty, shiny patent leather and metallic mesh fabric upper, and the bungee laces let her easily slip them on and off. Of course the best part as far as Kay is concerned is the light up sole. It lights up all along the side in white, pink, and blue.

I’m not sure I can explain to you how much Kay loves these shoes. She stomps around like Godzilla so everyone can see her lights, and you can see her smile from a mile away. The only thing missing is an on-off switch for the lights.

Tee picked out this pair of lightweight Pepsters – Colorbeam shoes in black and her favourite pink. The upper is woven striped glitter mesh fabric with a 3D printed overlay. The stretchy pink ribbon closures make them easy for Tee to slip on and off when she changes from indoor to outdoor shoes at school every day.

Tee loves the design on these shoes, and they’re perfect for running around the schoolyard and the neighbourhood with her sister.

When it comes to the grown-ups, hubby and I both chose boots. Chris likes the comfort and versatility of these premium leather Mark Nason Barnsley boots – they’re perfect as business casual on workdays and plain old comfortable casual on weekends. This boot style provides more support for his weak left ankle, but under his slacks or jeans they look like regular shoes. Same with the lace-up front. He likes the look, but they also come with the convenience of a zipper closure up the side.

Not only do they look good, they have a nice deep tread and comfortable Memory Foam Lux insole so he can chase after the kids on the weekends when I’m taking a well-deserved break from kid wrangling.

And me? I actually got two pairs of SKECHERS ankle boots to try out: the Amarillo Guns Blazin’ boots and Flyer boots.

For the last couple of years I’ve been a fan of suede ankle boots. Here in Vancouver we don’t typically need winter boots (Except for this week when we had crazy snow. What’s up with that?) but I love a pair of kickin’ ankle boots. I love the look paired with leggings or skinny jeans and a long swingy sweater, or even a pretty dress and tights on warmer days.

These Amarillo boots look great for work but they’re comfortable and casual enough for everyday wear too. I love the chunky stacked heels because they give me that little bit of extra height without being too wobbly to run around in all day.

And here are my Flyer boots. They’re a little taller and more structured, and they make my legs look oh so sexy. At least that’s what hubby tells me, though I suppose he might be just a tiny bit biased.

Here’s a close-up of that cute decorative zipper on that Flyer boot. (The real zipper’s on the other side.)

The Amarillo and Flyer boots are similar styles, but if you’re trying to choose between the two of them, the Amarillo boots are a bit more casual with a lower heel, lower shaft, and slouched front panel. The Flyer boots are dressier with their more structured front and higher heel.
